Ina Centaur,
the Novelist

I spend a considerable amount of time in my real life working on two novel sagas in-progress (as well as many short stories and novella's).

One saga is manifested as an urban fantasy set in modern times with a "magic" that converges with some aspects of string theory and modern physics. The "magical" creatures are referred to as Ethereals, and they live incognito with normal human beings. Ethereals are, by definition, beings capable of directly manipulating the Ess (the Ethereal Space), which is like the backend to "seen" reality. The Ess "looks" like a mess of moving strings, but each element of reality has an analogue in the Ess. Every action anyone makes causes the configuration of the Ess to change, as does every instant of time—even if nothing were to happen. The Ess actually explains magic as its all-encompassing science! The saga has a very rich backstory that (currently) goes to the 30th century and spans way back to B.C.E. Several historical events (in our real timeline), including major ones, and those of unexplained or dubious causes, are related to the saga, and explained by the science behind its mythos. Several cultures in the saga also have their own language. The language of the Kinai (mages), for example, is part pictorial and part fusional; at first glance, it looks like Chinese, but the glyphs can actually be decomposed into morphemes and related to each other similar to a fusional language such as Classical Latin. The Minai Ichori (vampires) also use a variant of Kinai. The fantasy saga's culture and language are intertwined as legacy to create profound characters.

The other novel I am working on is something I have been musing on since ninth grade: it is basically an epic fictionalization of the public high school-college experience from the perspective of the impoverished gentry—which I think is the timeless analogue of the upper middle class who, having reached the status, have since "fallen from grace" (money, et al). Since tenth grade, the working title has been The Fraudessy.

Related to virtual matters (for which, I suppose I am currently better known for), I am also continuously exploring the relation between literary fiction and immersive open-ended virtual worlds such as Second Life through sLiterary Magazine.

(I write both mainstream and literary fiction. When I write literary fiction, I am prone to using flowery embellishments with experimental structure, often in long sentences. The informational text on this page has been edited with a razor-sharp blade to make it sane to read! :-))
